Touchdown Highlights from Integrate 2024

I just got back home from London, where I had some amazing chats with the Microsoft product teams and met a bunch of inspiring people! These conversations sparked tons of new ideas and insights from every session I attended at Integrate 2024.

Instead of packing everything into one post, I’ve decided to write separate articles about my notes and shared knowledge from each session. Stay tuned for these upcoming articles and interviews. For now, let’s highlight the major announcements from Integrate 2024.

AI Integration in Azure Logic Apps and Microsoft’s big Investments in Gen AI

First up, let’s talk about Azure Logic Apps. One of the coolest announcements was the improved AI capabilities. These updates make AI integration smoother and more efficient. Microsoft is also investing big in generative AI (Gen AI), adding features to help with everything from writing Azure API Management policies to explaining what Logic Apps do and interacting with the data in your flow. This area is growing fast, the coming wave of AI is going to be a huge disruptive force. It’s better to be informed than not. I’m super excited to learn more!

Logic Apps is is getting more powerful over the years

The support for .NET 8 custom code within Logic Apps Standard. For those of us who love tweaking things with custom code, there’s some great news. Initially, custom code support was limited to .NET Framework, but now it also includes .NET 8! And get this Microsoft introduced inline code support for C#. So, if you just need to insert a small piece of code directly into your workflow, you can do it without creating an entire separate project. This update lets us mix and match technologies easily. You can handle long running processes with Logic Apps and add custom .NET code for more complex tasks. This blend of pro-code and low-code is awesome!

Testing has always been a bit of a chore, right? But not anymore. Soon Logic Apps will have First-party testing framework that makes unit testing specific scenarios a breeze. You can decouple your testing from live environments, which means you can test repeatedly with the same inputs and outputs without any hassle. Looking forward to get hands on it

Improvement in the built-in EDI capability is now GA, allowing for better throughput and larger payloads, and they are working on new templates to help you get started faster with more complex workflows.

Logic Apps Hybrid Deployment Models, Run your Logic Apps anywhere on-premises, in the cloud, or in hybrid environments with the same seamless experience.

One of my favorites is the preview of running Azure Logic Apps on any Kubernetes cluster using Azure Arc. This means you can manage Logic Apps from the cloud even if they’re hosted in your own data center. This flexibility means you can run critical workloads close to where your data lives, which is perfect for regulatory compliance or high-availability needs.

Exciting Updates in Azure Messaging Services

Get ready for some cool updates in Azure messaging services!

  • Geo-Replication in Service Bus: Seamless disaster recovery with full data replication between regions.
  • Event Grid: Introduces pull delivery and custom domains for the MQTT broker, making large-scale deployments super easy.
  • Service Bus: Now supports batch message retrieval and Chaos Studio integration, so you can test system resilience like never before.
  • Security Upgrade: Say goodbye to TLS 1.0 and 1.1 by October 31, 2024, as we move to the ultra-secure TLS 1.3.

Integrate 2024 was a fantastic event, showcasing big advancements in Microsoft Integration technologies. From improved AI capabilities in Azure Logic Apps to major updates in API management and hybrid deployment models, the conference provided valuable insights and tools for developers and IT professionals.

Stay tuned for more detailed posts on each session and the knowledge shared during the event.
